My Astrology Diary-1st House

When I first started learning astrology, I focused mostly on zodiac signs and birth charts as a whole. But the more I learn, the more I realise the houses are where astrology starts to feel really personal and practical.

The First House is the house I’ve been exploring recently, and from what I understand so far, it’s connected to identity, appearance, first impressions, and the energy we naturally bring into the world.

It’s often called the “House of Self,” which honestly makes sense to me because it seems to describe the version of ourselves people meet first — our outer personality, our vibe, and even how we instinctively approach life.

I’ve been thinking about it as the doorway into the birth chart.

The sign sitting in the First House (also known as the Rising Sign or Ascendant) seems to colour how we move through the world. Even if someone’s Sun sign is one thing, their Rising sign can completely change how they come across to others.

For example, someone with a soft emotional Sun sign might still appear confident and bold if they have a fire sign rising. That’s one of the things I find fascinating about astrology — people are rarely just one thing.

The First House is also connected to:

Identity • Approach • Image • Persona • Lens • Surface • How we begin things

The more I read about it, the more I notice how important this house feels in shaping our everyday experience.

Something I’ve been reflecting on is how different we can feel internally compared to how others see us externally. Astrology seems to create language around that difference, and I think that’s partly why people find it so comforting and interesting.

Right now, I’m trying to learn the houses slowly instead of overwhelming myself with too much information at once. I’ve found it helps to look at real people, personality traits, and even my own habits through the lens of each house.

If you’re also learning astrology, maybe it’s worth asking yourself:

  • What impression do I naturally give people?
  • Do I relate more to my Sun sign or my Rising sign?
  • How do I approach new situations?
  • What energy do I lead with?

I’m starting to realise astrology isn’t really about putting ourselves into boxes. For me, it feels more like a tool for self-awareness and understanding different layers of personality.

And honestly, the First House feels like the perfect place to begin.

Until next time,
Karen x
