How are you feeling today? Do you have a pep in your step, or is the gloomy weather and lack of sunshine leaving you feeling drained? The winter season can bring on the blues, and there’s even a medical term for it: SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). This happens due to the lack of natural light, leading to lower levels of that mega-important vitamin D.
With shorter days and long nights setting in by 4:30 pm, it’s easy to fall into hibernation mode, binge-watching Netflix or a reality TV show. I mean, I’m guilty of this—even when the sun is shining, I love getting stuck into a drama or catching my daily dose of Big Brother or Love Island (depending on what’s on!).
Wellness Advice Overload? You’re Not Alone
So, how can we help ourselves feel more empowered? There are countless self-help fixes—from food and exercise to vitamins, meal replacements, mindset coaching, and business advice. It can be overwhelming. We are all so unique; what works for one person may be a hard no for another. It’s all about trying things out and seeing what aligns with you.
At 49 years old, I’ve experimented with plenty of wellness trends. I’m a spiritual person who believes in energy and vibes! I have my ways of balancing my mind, making healthier decisions, and finding what truly works for me. Through trial and error, I’ve learned that what I love sticks—and the things I force myself to do don’t.
I Don’t Have It All Figured Out
As a holistic interior designer, I’ve got my home game on point—because, well, this is my thing! I’ve trained, I’ve studied, and I know how to create a space that supports my needs. But when it comes to food? Eh, not so much. Nutrition just doesn’t excite me, so I happily outsource that wisdom from the pros. The same goes for exercise—I’ve finally stopped forcing myself to do workouts I hate and now just stick to what I love: strength training, weights, yoga, and recently, Pilates (which, surprisingly, I enjoy!).
I’ve accepted that I’m never going to be a skinny woman—and honestly, I don’t need to be. As long as I’m strong, fit, and feeling good, that’s what matters.
So, with that little detour out of the way, let’s dive into what I do know best—my top interior design secrets for creating a high vibe home!

How to Create a High Vibe Home for Free
1. Open Curtains & Blinds – Maximise Natural Light
Especially in winter, when there’s little daylight, many people keep blinds down and curtains closed—making their space feel dark and depressing. Open up your blinds and curtains as much as possible to let in natural light. This will uplift your mood and strengthen your connection to the outside world. When evening comes, close them up, get cosy, and enjoy your Netflix binge guilt-free.
2. Open Windows to Refresh the Air
Stale air holds onto toxins and negative energy. Even if it’s freezing outside, open your windows for just 10 minutes a day—especially when cooking or cleaning to improve indoor air quality. Modern homes are full of materials that off-gas toxins, from furniture and flooring to paint and fabrics. This simple habit replenishes your air quality and makes a huge difference.
3. Energy Clearing
Negative energy builds up in a home from arguments, stress, and external influences. To clear it out, follow this simple ritual:
- Open the windows
- Play your favourite high vibe music.
- Turn on all the lights.
- Grab a sage stick and smudge your home, move through each room, saying aloud: “I remove all negative energy and replace it with positive energy.”
- Set your own intentions, such as: “Bless my home,“ or “Fill my home with love.”

4. Declutter for Flow and Fresh Energy
Clutter stagnates energy. When energy is stuck, you feel stuck. A tidy home truly does equal a tidy mind. I know decluttering is hard for many people, but it’s worth it. Personally, I’m a little bit OCD and always clearing things out—I’ve been nicknamed the Bootsale Queen because I constantly get rid of what no longer serves me.
Releasing things you no longer need opens you up to new opportunities and fresh energy. Holding on keeps you stuck.
5. Keep It Clean
A clean home is non-negotiable for a high vibe home. I literally can’t function when my home isn’t clean—it throws off my entire energy. You’ve heard the saying: Cleanliness is next to godliness. If you can only do two things to raise your home’s vibration, make it clutter-free and clean. Everything else is just an extra boost to elevate the energy even higher.
6. Change Up the Room
Moving your furniture around shifts the energy. A stagnant layout creates a stagnant atmosphere. Even small changes make a difference:
- Swap your wall art
- Rearrange a side table or coffee table
- Move a rug from one room to another
It doesn’t have to cost you a penny to refresh your space and create a high vibe home.

Bringing nature inside instantly lifts the vibe. Anything living has energy! Plants connect you to nature, improving well-being and air quality. Flowers, with their beautiful colours and scents, uplift your mood effortlessly.

Essential oils are a simple yet powerful way to raise the vibe in your home. Each oil carries its unique energy, helping to create the perfect atmosphere:
🌿 Lavender – Calm, relaxation, and better sleep
🍊 Citrus oils (grapefruit, orange, lemon, lime) – Energising, uplifting, and mood-boosting
🌲 Eucalyptus – Clears the mind, refreshes the air, and supports breathing
🌸 Rose – Promotes self-love, comfort, and emotional balance
🍃 Peppermint – Enhances focus, clears mental fog, and boosts energy
🪵 Sandalwood – Grounding, peaceful, and perfect for meditation
Diffuse them, add a few drops to your cleaning routine, mix them into a DIY room spray, or enjoy them in a relaxing bath. Your home (and your mood) will thank you!
9. Create a Vision Board
Get creative! What does your best life look like? How can your home support your dreams? When your home is in order, it becomes a solid foundation for you to manifest your goals. A vision board helps you visualise and attract what you truly want.
10. Gain Knowledge – Keep Learning!
Never stop learning! Knowledge is power. Listen to podcasts, watch YouTube videos, and expand your mind. Remember, you chose to be here having this human experience. So pucker up, buttercup, and enjoy the ride!
