Why I Started Learning Reiki: My Personal Journey into Energy Healing

I decided it was finally time to document my journey into Reiki energy healing—not just for you, the reader, but for myself too. We often forget the small beginnings of the paths we take, and since I already share ideas about holistic design and wellbeing here, it makes sense to create my own little diary of discovery. Maybe it’s a bit self-indulgent, but it might just inspire someone else to explore the world of energy healing, too.

From Holistic Homes to Reiki Energy Healing

So, what made me take the leap from designing homes to learning Reiki energy healing?

Well, I already work to make homes feel healthy, calming, and energetically aligned. My goal has always been to create a high-vibe atmosphere where people can thrive. Through things like aromatherapy, natural materials, Feng Shui, sound healing, and toxin-free design, I’ve seen first-hand how good energy in a home can transform wellbeing.

But I started thinking: What if I could support not just the energy of the home, but the energy of the person living in it, too? That’s when Reiki energy healing started calling to me.

It felt like the perfect next step—bringing together home and body, space and spirit.

A Spiritual Calling and a Natural Next Step

I’ve always been a spiritual person. I’ve believed in energy that we can’t see since I was a teenager, and I fell in love with astrology at around 15. (I’m a Leo, if you’re wondering!) I believe that sound, colour, light, emotions, arguments—even people’s presence—carry and transfer energy that can affect us physically, mentally, and emotionally.

So Reiki energy healing doesn’t feel like something totally new. It feels like a natural deepening of something I’ve always believed in.

Starting My Reiki Energy Healing Course

I recently enrolled in an online Reiki energy healing course, and even though I’ve only completed a few sections, I’m already learning so much.

We started with the meaning of the word “Reiki” and the different ways it’s written, which I found surprisingly fascinating. The course explained that the way you write and speak the word matters, as it holds energy in itself. That attention to detail really resonated with me.

Then we moved into what Reiki can actually do. I hadn’t realised how versatile it is—it can help release stuck energy, ease physical pain, support emotional healing, and even be used for spaces (yes, homes!). That blew my mind. The idea that I can use Reiki energy healing to clear and uplift the energy of a room or home? Incredible. That’s something I’ll absolutely explore further in my design practice.

Respecting the Energy and Letting Go of Ego

The course also touched on the importance of staying humble and grounded. There was even a note about watching out for ego as you develop your Reiki practice. I can totally see why—it’s easy to get caught up in the idea of being able to heal or channel energy. But really, you’re acting as a vessel. It’s not about power, it’s about presence.

To be honest, before this, I didn’t fully appreciate what my Reiki Master friends actually did. I imagined them gently hovering their hands over someone and thought, “Okay… sounds peaceful.” But now that I’ve started studying Reiki energy healing myself, I see how deep, spiritual, and intentional it really is. I have a whole new level of respect for the practice—and for them.

Symbols, Energy, and the Power of Intuition

We’ve also started learning about the first Reiki symbol. I’ve printed it out and have been using it for protection and grounding. Even though it’s simple, it holds a surprising amount of energy. I can genuinely feel it. I wasn’t expecting that.

The intuitive nature of Reiki energy healing is something I really love. It’s not just about following a formula—it’s about sensing, feeling, and trusting the energy.

Looking Ahead: Attunement and the 21-Day Cleanse

I haven’t reached the attunement stage yet—that’s where you’re energetically aligned by a Reiki Master to channel Reiki energy. I’m planning to wait until after my birthday season (Leo life!), so I can fully commit to the recommended 21-day cleanse afterward.

This part feels big. Not scary, exactly—more like exciting and a little awe-inspiring. The idea of going through an energetic shift is something I want to honour and prepare for properly.

Why I’m Sharing My Reiki Energy Healing Journey

I’m sharing all of this not because I’ve reached some final destination (far from it!), but because I think it’s important to talk about the beginning stages—the learning, the excitement, the nervousness, the not knowing what’s next.

Reiki energy healing is already teaching me to slow down, pay attention, and tune in—to both myself and the spaces I create for others.

In time, I hope to weave this healing practice into my holistic design work, offering not just beautiful homes but energetically balanced lives. Imagine a full-circle approach: healing the space and the soul. That’s where I’m headed.

And this is just the beginning.
