Living Room Reimagined
This project perfectly demonstrates the philosophy behind my REIMAGINE approach to interior design—showing how a room can be completely transformed by making thoughtful design decisions while keeping many of the pieces you already own.
The brief was to create a multifunctional living room that balanced everyday family life with working from home, occasional entertaining and a comfortable place to relax. Rather than starting from scratch, the focus was on rethinking the existing space, carefully selecting what should remain, what could be refreshed and where a few new additions would make the greatest impact.
Around seventy per cent of the furniture and accessories were retained, including the dining table and chairs, TV unit, vintage sideboard, large floor-standing mirror, rug, lamps, plants and decorative accessories. Many styling pieces were simply relocated from elsewhere in the home, demonstrating how “shopping your own home” can breathe new life into a room without increasing the budget.
The transformation began by colour washing the walls and woodwork in one warm neutral shade, creating a calm backdrop that allowed textures and materials to become the focus. Existing brick-effect wallpaper was retained and paired with a bold botanical wallpaper, introducing a playful layered aesthetic inspired by nature while creating depth and personality.
The furniture was updated with a new four-seater faux leather sofa and a striking blue accent chair with coordinating footstool, introducing contrast without overwhelming the neutral palette. A cowhide rug adds texture and warmth, while oversized mirrors bounce natural light around the room, making the space feel brighter and more expansive.
Although a large woven pendant light was introduced to provide visual impact, the lighting scheme was designed around layers rather than a single overhead fitting. Table lamps and accent lighting create a softer, more relaxed atmosphere during the evening, reflecting the way the room is actually used day to day.
The result is an eclectic interior that blends natural materials, vintage pieces and contemporary furniture into a relaxed, characterful home. Rather than following one particular design trend, the space reflects a personal style built on mixing influences, reusing quality furniture and investing only where it genuinely enhances the room.
This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful interior design doesn’t always require a complete renovation. By working with existing furniture, introducing a carefully considered colour palette and making a handful of strategic updates, the room feels entirely transformed while remaining sustainable, cost-effective and deeply personal.
