Luxury Home Bar & Reception Lounge
Designed as the heart of the home’s entertaining spaces, this luxury reception lounge and bespoke bar was created to provide the perfect setting for welcoming guests before dinner parties, celebrations and family gatherings. The brief was to combine sophisticated entertaining with relaxed comfort, while carefully integrating the space into the surrounding open-plan layout.
One of the biggest design challenges was the architecture itself. Unlike a traditional room, this space was visually connected to several adjoining areas, including the kitchen and orangery, with multiple openings and three large windows leaving only one uninterrupted wall. Every design decision therefore had to work not only within the room itself but also from every viewpoint throughout the ground floor.
The uninterrupted wall naturally became the focal point of the design, housing a bespoke back bar and seated island bar that maximise functionality without disrupting the flow through the home. This arrangement allows guests to gather around the bar while creating a separate, more relaxed seating area for conversation, ensuring the room feels equally suited to intimate evenings and larger celebrations.
Custom-designed cabinetry in rich Wenge wood provides a sophisticated backdrop, while luxurious gold etched Formica feature panels introduce warmth, texture and understated glamour. The same detailing was repeated on the front of the island bar, creating continuity throughout the design. Illuminated glass shelving showcases crystal glassware and drinks collections while highlighting the metallic finishes, adding depth and atmosphere as the lighting changes throughout the day.
Suspended above the island, a dramatic statement chandelier defines the entertaining area and creates a striking focal point visible from neighbouring rooms. The lighting scheme is further enhanced with elegant wall lights that wash the walls with a soft glow, transforming the space into an inviting destination for evening entertaining.
A subtle animal-inspired wallpaper introduces pattern without overwhelming the room, bringing softness and texture while complementing the adjoining orangery, where the same wallcovering was continued to create a seamless flow between spaces. With three large windows, privacy and light control were important considerations, so bespoke Roman blinds were selected in a coordinating textured fabric that blends effortlessly into the wallpaper. During the day they almost disappear into the design, while in the evening they provide complete blackout for a more intimate atmosphere.
The furniture palette continues the theme of understated luxury, with elegant bar stools, comfortable occasional seating and carefully chosen accent furniture featuring warm neutral upholstery and brushed gold detailing. Together, these elements create a sophisticated yet welcoming environment that encourages guests to relax, socialise and enjoy the experience of entertaining.
This project perfectly demonstrates how thoughtful space planning, bespoke joinery and carefully layered materials can transform an open-plan area into a luxurious destination within the home. Every element was designed to balance visual impact with practicality, resulting in an elegant entertaining space that feels connected to the wider home while maintaining its own unique identity.
